SHARJAH, 1st November, 2022 (WAM) — His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah, chaired the Council meeting on Tuesday of the Academy at its headquarters in the university town.
At the start of the meeting, the Ruler of Sharjah welcomed the participants, praising the efforts of the Academy in various areas of Arabic language support.
During the meeting, the Ruler of Sharjah signed a decision on the formation of members of the Academy.
The decision stipulates that the Arabic Language Academy conference in Sharjah will be composed of the following members: Prof. Dr. Abdullah Al-Washmi, Secretary General of the King Salman World Academy for the Arabic Language; Teacher. Dr. Khalil Al Nahwi, President of the Language Council of Mauritania; Teacher. Dr. Saleh Belaid, President of the Superior Council of the Arabic Language in Algeria; Teacher. Dr. Muhammad Suleiman Salman Al-Saudi, Secretary General of the Jordanian Academy of the Arabic Language; Teacher. Dr. Bakri Muhammad Al Haj, President of the Arabic Language Academy in Khartoum; Teacher. Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed El Sayed, President of the Arabic Language Academy of Damascus; Teacher. Dr. Abdel-Fattah Al Hajjari, Director of the Arabization Coordination Office in Rabat; Teacher. Dr. Hassan Abdel-Rahman Al Silwadi, President of the Palestinian Academy of Arabic Language; Teacher. Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Al Shaibani, Vice President of the Arabic Language Academy in Libya; Teacher. Dr. Muhammad Hussein Al Yassin, President of the Iraqi Scientific Academy; Teacher. Dr. Salah Fadl, President of the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo; Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Language Educational Center for the Gulf States; Teacher. Dr. Abdel Salam Issawi, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Arabic Language, University of Manouba; and Professor Dr. Mamoun Wajih, Scientific Director of the Historical Dictionary Project.
The term of Academy membership is three years, renewable for a similar period of time, and those whose membership has expired may be reappointed.
The meeting discussed ALA’s march in Sharjah, and discussed the Academy’s future plans in developing Arabic language learning, teaching and dissemination and cooperation with a number of institutions involved, which contributes to the expansion of the activities of the Academy.
The meeting was attended by: Prof. Ahmed Al Dhubain, former director of King Saud University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Teacher. Dr. Ibrahim Al Saafin, former head of the Arabic language department at the University of Sharjah; Teacher. Dr. Abdullah bin Saif Al Toubi, Director of the Center for Arabization, Translation and Interest in Arabic in the Sultanate of Oman; Dr. Muhammed Safi Al Mosteghanemi, General Secretary of ALA in Sharjah; and Muhammad Hassan Khalaf, managing director of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority.
